Vientiane underwater

Hoo hoo – this is the hot topic of the last few days ; the whole country is flooded because of the heavy rain hitting the country lately, and the water level of the Mekong is well above danger level in cities like Luang Prabang and Vientiane.

In Vientiane , the water level increased to 13.26m yesterday morning, above the danger level of 12.5m, which has caused some kind of mess in the city. Roads have been cut off and sandbags walls have been built all along the Mekong riverside.

Even though the situation is pretty worrying, it seems to more trigger people’s curiosity than people’s anguish. Well, we're in lao, there's no such thing as "being anxious" anyway haha. Well I’ve been myself a bit curious and walked along the city centre riverside yesterday night, to check it out by myself: this is actually pretty impressive, the Mekong grown drastically and many of the bamboo-made restaurant’s terraces are flooded. For most of them, we can now only see the rooftop still standing in the water.

Cant be arsed writing in French, here's an article from "Le Monde"
